Police activity on University Park Campus has concluded, a TrojansAlert at 6:22 p.m. announced, and the McCarthy Way Parking Structure is now open. The Daily Trojan is awaiting further LAPD clarification as to the incident’s resolution.

September 16, 2023 5:16 p.m.

The McCarthy Way Parking Structure is temporarily closed as the LAPD searches for further evidence, Carlisle said. DPS issued a TrojansAlert at 5:10 p.m. notifying students of the closure and “police activity on the University Park Campus.”

The LAPD had followed the vehicle on campus following unconfirmed reports of a robbery at Figueroa and 30th Streets, Carlisle said.

The Los Angeles Police Department has detained two suspects and is still investigating the incident, Department of Public Safety Assistant Chief Davis Carlisle said.

September 16, 2023 4:53 p.m.

A person was detained at Alumni Park at 4:09 p.m. Saturday.

The Los Angeles Police Department received a report that the suspect had placed a gun in a backpack, and officers followed a black car potentially associated with the suspect to the McCarthy Way Parking Structure. The presence of a gun has not been confirmed.

The Department of Public Safety called on the LAPD for backup, a spokesperson for the LAPD said. DPS Assistant Chief David Carlisle said the LAPD is taking the lead on the incident, which is still under investigation.

No TrojansAlert was sent out to students despite reports of the armed suspect; Carlisle said DPS did not send an alert because it did not have confirmed information and the suspect was already detained.
