Oregon completed its final day of the Long Beach Invitational Sunday, concluding three days of play and a winning record for the tournament.

“Our main goal is we want to get a little bit better each day,” head coach Alison Silverio said before the Ducks left for the Invitational.

Oregon finished the day 6-2 in singles and 2-2 in doubles. Returning seniors provided multiple singles wins. Alyssa Tobita defeated her opponent from Cal State Northridge, 6-1, 6-4, and Marlou Kluiving took her match 6-1, 6-3.

On Saturday, the Ducks brought the heat in doubles with a 6-4 win for Nia Rose and Tobita, followed by a win from Kennan Johnson and Christi Woodson over Cal State Northridge. Kluiving and Shweta Sangwan finished up the doubles set, taking home a 6-2 win.

On the singles side, Oregon went 7-1 on the day, with its quickest wins coming from two of Oregon’s newest additions, Sangwan and Daniela Nasser. The freshmen finished their sets fourth and sixth, respectively. Sangwan won her singles match 6-2, 6-1, while Nasser took down her opponent 6-1, 6-1.

The Ducks completed the Invitational with doubles matches against Denver and singles against Long Beach State University.

Next weekend the Ducks head to Texas for a weekend full of duels beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday.

With its first tournament out of the way, the Ducks are looking forward to a strong spring season.

“Use this weekend at Long Beach as an opportunity to just really propel us through the spring season,” Silverio said.
