Ferentz won’t comment on Robinson’s status

TEMPE, Ariz. — After Iowa’s 27-24 Insight Bowl win over Missouri Tuesday night, head coach Kirk Ferentz refused to comment on Adam Robinson’s status with the team following the running back’s Monday citation for marijuana possession in Des Moines.

Robinson — who has been the Hawkeyes’ leading rusher each of the last two seasons — wasn’t with the team in Arizona because of a prior suspension for violating team rules. This marks the second drug issue with an Iowa player in the last three weeks.

Record-breaking wide receiver Derrell Johnson-Koulianos was arrested on seven drug-related charges on Dec. 7.

“[Athletics Director] Gary [Barta] made a statement today,” Ferentz said. “And I really don’t have anything to add to it. I have been kind of occupied with this game, as you might imagine. It has been a busy day. It’s really not paramount on my thoughts now. I’m going to go home and enjoy this win.”

Barta released the following statement Tuesday afternoon: “Kirk and I were made aware of Adam’s situation earlier this morning. Obviously, we are both extremely disappointed to hear the news. We don’t have all of the facts and will withhold any further comment until we return to Iowa City and learn all of the details.”

Iowa didn’t miss Robinson much against the Tigers. True freshman Marcus Coker rushed for 219 yards and two touchdowns. He was named the offensive player of the game.
