Acrobatics and tumbling: Baylor makes meet close, but Oregon ultimately prevails

On Saturday, Oregon used a successful showing in the team routine — outscoring Baylor by six points in the final event — to edge out the Bears 284.700-276.035. The Ducks remained undefeated and are now 9-0 on the season.

“It wasn’t our best meet tonight, but I’m proud of the team for powering through,” Oregon head coach Felecia Mulkey told GoDucks.com. “This was a tough meet to have at the end of a week-long trip.”

While Oregon has made a trend of getting off to a hot start, Baylor did everything in its power to stay with the upstart Ducks. Baylor won three straight heats stemming from the tumbling heat in the compulsory event to the second heat of the acrobatic event.

Oregon hasn’t lost an event this entire season but came close to losing its first in the tumbling event. The Ducks just barely beat out Baylor by a .07 margin, setting the tone for an exhilarating finish with the team routine. While it was close, Oregon eventually prevailed with another strong team routine.

Oregon will travel to Azusa Pacific University for its final meet of the regular season next week. The Ducks beat Azusa Pacific earlier this season by a score of 280.570-278.450.
