Oregon women’s basketball caps off non-conference schedule with 96-61 win over CSU Northridge

The Oregon Ducks finished up the non-conference portion of their 2013-2014 campaign with a 96-61 win over CSU Northridge on Sunday afternoon at Matthew Knight Arena.

The Ducks (9-2) earned their seventh-straight victory behind a 28-point performance from freshman Chrishae Rowe. She also recorded seven rebounds on 10-of-21 shooting. The seventh consecutive victory is the most ever in coach Paul Westhead’s tenure at Oregon.

“We played reasonably well,” Westhead told GoDucks.com. “My assistants warned me that we’d be rusty and that some players would get tired sooner. I attribute some of our defensive breakdowns to that.”

Four Ducks reached double figures in the contest, accounting for 78 of the 96 points. Sophomore Jillian Alleyne tallied her ninth double-double of the season with 2:32 into the second half. She finished with 22 points and a season-high 19 rebounds.

“I like our team chemistry, but it’s also something we could improve on but we have really good team chemistry,” Alleyne told GoDucks.com about Oregon’s standing heading into conference play. “Our defense could be a little bit better that’s still something we could work on but other than that everything else is flowing and coming together.”

Oregon engineered a 13-0 run that spanned for 2:34 after falling behind 4-3 to start the game. After that, the Ducks never trailed to enter halftime with a 44-25 lead behind Rowe’s 16 first-half points.

As a team, the Ducks were 45.7 percent from the floor (37-of-81 shooting) while finishing with a 9-of-32 mark from behind the arc. Oregon held a 22-4 edge in second chance points over the CSU Northridge in the game.

Oregon will begin its conference schedule next weekend when the Ducks travel to Stanford on Friday night.

“We were good this year,” Westhead told GoDucks.com about the non-conference schedule. “I don’t know how good we are. I can’t project ahead. We play five of our next six on the road which is not a good way to start no matter how good you are.”
