Freshman students have the opportunity to finish their year earning one credit at Regents College in London.

Students completing their freshman year at the University of Hartford have a unique opportunity to earn credit in the scenic city of London. This program is a one-credit experience that allows a group of UHa students to spend one week at Regents College in London.

Students are housed on campus in residence halls with other University students. Participants are provided with a meal stipend as well as a card that allows access to buses and trains throughout the city.

One credit is earned in University Studies 190 and students get to learn hands-on from scheduled lectures and a visit to Shakespeare’s Globe. Students are also given the opportunity to explore the city, experience theatre and art and learn about the culture of London from local experts.

The First Year London Experience gives first year students a taste of studying abroad and gives them lasting friendships and skills to continue in their college careers.

Current sophomore Becca Hanlon attended the trip last year and said the short term nature of the First Year Experience was perfect for her because she was not ready for a full semester abroad. About the sights in London, Becca said they were “breathtaking,” especially the London Eye, and that “it was amazing to have independence and explore a city with my friends.” London is a city of culture, and students have the opportunity to explore museums, public markets and landmarks like Big Ben and the London Eye.

The cost of the program is designed to be affordable and all-inclusive. Included in the cost is a meal card, a public transportation pass and round-trip airfare from New York to London. The original program fee also includes tours and excursions for the group around the city.

The program cost is estimated at $2,400 and the trip is from May 23 – 31, 2014. Applications are due by Mar. 1 and are available online through the Study Abroad website.
