Dean of the College Katherine Bergeron will leave the University to become president of Connecticut College, a position she will assume January 1.
Bergeron, a senior University administrator, was named dean in 2006 after working as a professor of music and chair of the music department. She has been a prominent voice in recent strategic planning efforts and a major advocate of online education initiatives at Brown. Under previous President Ruth Simmons, Bergeron worked on major components of the Plan for Academic Enrichment, such as expanding the first-year seminar program. In 2008, she headed the Task Force on Undergraduate Education.
Provost Mark Schlissel P’15 will head a search this fall to identify a new dean.
