Carter stated that she has always dreamed about being a collegiate record holder, but believed it would come in her senior year.

“For it (the title) to come junior year, especially from not even making the final last year to setting the collegiate record, it’s so crazy to me,” Carter said.

With her first place finish, Carter earned Stanford 10 points to their team total.

But earning the title was not an easy battle for Carter, who had to compete against Olympic finalist Georganne Moline of Arizona.

“I knew I would have to ran fast to beat Georganne again,” Carter said.

Although up against tough competition against Moline, Carter had a steady lead through the last 100 meters and final hurdles.

“Going into hurdle 10 I could have eased up … but I just forced myself to use my left which is sort of a risk but coming off I sort of just powered through,” Carter said.

Even though Moline took second, the redshirt sophomore from Arizona was still smiling after the race while talking about setting a personal record of 53.72.

“That’s a great time to lose to her (Carter),”Moline said. “She has pushed me every time I run with her and that was a PR for me, in London I ran a 53.9 and today was a 53.7 so I am really happy.”

Finishing behind Moline in third was Turquoise Thompson of UCLA with a time of 54.99
