On Monday afternoon, she sent an email to ASUO Chief Justice Nick Schultz, ASUO Elections Board Coordinator Pat Chaney and others to validate the results.

“ASUO elections are not subject to Oregon election law,” Holmes wrote. “As such, the election is valid and the results should be released as soon as possible.”

After they were released — which named Sam Dotters-Katz as the winner by 426 votes — Dotters-Katz reported that his opponent Lamar Wise never called him to concede the election.

“I don’t think they are done with their challenges to the clear loss in the election,” he said.

In response to the email sent by Holmes, students and representatives from Ducks for a Difference signed a letter protesting “the circumstances surrounding the culmination of the 2013 ASUO election.”

“The unwarranted intervention by UO Administration in the release of this year’s election results,” the letter stated, “was an unacceptable breach of the autonomy of our student body and government.

“Our ability to operate as the most autonomous student government in the nation is at stake,” the letter continued. “Therefor [sic] we ask that Dr. Holmes formally withdraw her decision in which she ordered the elections results be released, and allow Constitution Court to resume control of the ASUO election process, permitting the ASUO to resolve this issue autonomously, regardless the outcome or consequences.”
