The trial was postponed to accommodate various logistical situations that have arisen, according to the order.
According to the order, the trial was scheduled to begin May 15. However, at a Feb. 10 hearing to discuss five motions filed by the Commonwealth and the defense, Cleland said he expected Sandusky’s trial to begin May 14.
The hearing or argument required to resolve any omnibus pretrial motions — or requests to examine whether there was a violation of constitutional or federal rights in the case — will be held April 5 as scheduled, according to the order.
As previously reported, Sandusky’s attorney Joe Amendola said Sandusky will be present at this hearing.
The hearing will be held at 9 a.m. in Courtroom 1 of the Centre County Courthouse in Bellefonte.
Amendola filed a motion Feb. 27 to postpone the trial until mid-July. Due to the voluminous amount of information involved in the case, Amendola wrote that he needed more time to prepare Sandusky’s defense.
Cleland denied the request two days later, according to court documents.
Sandusky is charged with 52 counts of child sexual abuse and is on house arrest. He continues to maintain his innocence.
