Minnesota lawmakers shot, authorities looking for 57-year-old man

Two Democrat lawmakers, Rep. Melissa Hortman and Sen. John Hoffman, and their spouses were shot in their homes overnight by someone impersonating a police officer, in what police are calling a targeted attack, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune.

According to Fox 9, Hortman, Hoffman and their spouses were shot in their Brooklyn Park and Champlain homes. Gov. Tim Walz confirmed the deaths of Hortman and her husband at a press conference this morning. Walz said he is “cautiously optimistic” about the condition of the Hoffmans.

Authorities are looking for 57-year-old Vance Boelter, who was identified by two anonymous sources, according to the Associated Press.

The shelter-in-place is no longer in effect, but the search continues. The suspect is considered armed and dangerous.
