Cyclist collides with pedestrian in North Berkeley, both parties severely injured

A cyclist collided with a pedestrian around 5 p.m. Saturday at the intersection of Hearst Avenue and Euclid Avenue by North Gate Hall.
Witnesses at the scene said a cyclist was traveling toward the UC Berkeley campus and struck a pedestrian standing on the sidewalk on Hearst Avenue. According to Berkeley Police Department Lt. Spencer Fomby, the exact conditions of the two people involved in the crash are still unknown. BPD spokesperson Officer Byron White said in an email that both involved were seriously injured and taken to a hospital. BPD’s Fatal Accident Investigation Team has taken over the case due to its severity, according to White.
The public has been advised to avoid the area through a Nixle alert.
