UC Berkeley uncertain about whether class cancellation will continue in light of poor air quality

Chancellor Carol Christ has yet to make a decision regarding canceling classes scheduled for Monday and Tuesday, according to a campus-wide message she sent Friday evening.
In her message, Christ said that the campus will wait until Sunday afternoon to decide whether class should be canceled, basing its decision off of “reliable data” and advice from campus medical and environmental experts. She added that the decision to cancel some or all of the remaining classes before Thanksgiving break would have “serious consequences” for completion of the semester’s work.
The Tang Center will continue distributing N-95 masks to students with medical conditions that are affected by the poor air quality on Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Christ said in the message. She also mentioned that the Big Game between Stanford University and UC Berkeley will be postponed to Dec. 1, and that the UC Rally Committee canceled the annual Big Game Rally scheduled for Friday, due to the poor air quality.
“Please do what you can and must to care for yourself, your friends and your loved ones during what are very trying times,” Christ said in the message. “I am honored and humbled to be a part of a community that is strong, resilient and so deeply compassionate.”
