The new semester has begun, giving freshmen another start and bringing returning Cougars one step closer to fulfilling their goals.

However, the parking situation at UH never ceases to disappoint most students.

Fall 2016 brought a unique struggle: getting a parking pass. Parking and Transportation Services capped the number of permits available to students, and further capped Student and Economy parking passes last week.

The Cougar talked to commuters to see how they feel about the parking dilemma.

"It seems like (Parking and Transportation Services) doesn’t really care much about the parking situation," said Sean Taylor, a kinesiology senior. "They don’t put much effort into it. I know that’s the No. 1 complaint I’ve heard from most people, and I agree." | Rafa Farihah/The Cougar
"I’m paying $320 to park in an open student parking lot. At least they could throw us some shade," said Rahment Mohamed, an economics junior. "Easiest parking hack is to get there early and park somewhere other people aren’t.” | Rafa Farihah/The Cougar
"This week I feel like parking was the same compared to the first week," said biotechnology freshman Minhal Zaidi. "Keep your eyes peeled and get the Parking Garage pass because it’s easier to park, and your car won’t be as hot when you get back."
"I actually have two parking passes, and they are very slow on getting me my second one right now, so it’s not very fun dealing with them," said finance and management junior Lauren Taylor. "Last year, I just had normal student parking and that was terrible so this year I got garage and it’s so much better." | Rafa Farihah/The Cougar
"For me, it’s good because I come early in the morning so there is always parking," said human nutrition and foods and kinesiology junior Tiffany Ngo. "Don’t rush in the parking lot to find parking. Go slowly and look both sides, and get help from a passenger sitting with you." | Rafa Farihah/The Cougar
