During April of 2016 The University of Hartford’s Barney School of Business was ranked 21 out of the top 25 Most Affordable Online Master’s Degrees in Accounting. During the ranking process 55 schools who offered an online MBA in accounting, were examined.
The tuition data was gathered from the NCES College Navigator database. In the professional world if a person wishes to practice public accounting they must hold 150 credit hours to sit for the Certified Public Accounting Exam.
By completing a master’s degree they guarantee that they will have the correct amount of credits to sit for the exam. Most undergraduate programs are between 123-125 credits to receive a B.S.B.A., and so the continued education is a necessary part of becoming a Certified Public Accountant.
The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA), encourages students to go for their Master’s as early as possible during the beginning of their careers because major accounting firms like the Big Four, and even some smaller perfer new hires to be certified.
BestMastersDegrees.com ranked the most affordable online programs and the Barney School of Business made the cut.
Included on the list of schools that made it into their top 25 were, UConn (24), University of Scranton (14), and number one: Florida Atlantic University.
These rankings were based solely off of tuition costs, however the Barney School has been doing extensive work to put it’s name on the map, and become one of the best business schools in the country.
The Barney School of Business is also accredited by the Association of Advanced Collegiate Schools of Business, which has become the gold standard for the business schools around the world. BSB was also ranked in the Princeton Review’s 295 Best Business Schools, earlier this year.
As the Barney School continues to make these list of “best…” And “top….” It’s aiding them in recruiting top talent from around the country for both their graduate and undergraduate programs. Sophomore and Economics/Finance major Joseph Giuffre said, “I think the numerous accolades that the Barney School receives, attracts more talented students, which leads to higher quality professional networks following graduation.”
Joseph Shashaty, a Barney student and baseball player said, “When I think of the Barney brand identity relative to the value of my education, I recognize recent accolades, certifications, and designations that the school possesses primarily as a recruiting tool. Meaning that our contemporary education will continue to yield future freshman classes full of youthful vibrancy and that is so important in terms of growth potential and growth opportunities that the school may have.”
Currently 87 percent of undergraduate Barney students will either have a job or will be continuing their education upon graduation. Shashaty continued, “As an undergraduate student, receiving an MBA from Barney is not only vital I’d contend it is undoubtably necessary. By that I reference the sustainability and advantageous pathway the Barney School offers undergraduate students to achieve an MBA. Classes at the undergraduate level, depending on performance relative to final grades, can be waived at the graduate MBA level making the overall class-graduate experience timely and cost-effective.”
Numbers like can be attributed to the reputation that the Barney School is developing not just in the world of academia but also in the business world as a whole. Much of the recognition the Barney School of Business has received began following Dean Martin Roth’s arrival. Manager of the Barney Undergraduate Student Service Courtney Culler said, “Dean Roth takes initiative beyond his call of action.”
The Barney programs both in the classroom and online have beenpraised highly over the last few years. Students and faculty both see the growing benefits from the accolades as well as the strong reputation that the Barney School is developing.
