Former Cal women’s soccer defender Samantha Witteman’s stock continues to rise. The Orlando Pride selected her as the 10th overall pick in the first round of the National Women’s Soccer League Draft on Friday morning.

The First Team All-Pac-12 selection will help bolster a squad led by Cal alumni and U.S. women’s soccer star Alex Morgan, who was the most recent Bear to be drafted by a professional women’s soccer club back in 2011.

Witteman will hope to reach the heights that Morgan has so far accomplished in her career. After having been called up to the U.S. U-23 Women’s National team earlier this week, Witteman will have the opportunity to prove herself on the international stage and improve her chances of becoming the latest breakout star for the red, white and blue.
