Berkeley police arrested a man with a loaded gun sitting in a car parked just south of Clark Kerr campus early Thursday morning.
At approximately 6:40 am, a community member called 911 to report a suspicious person parked in a driveway on the 2700 block of Belrose Avenue in a vehicle that did not belong to the resident. The officers who responded shortly after saw a gun inside the SUV as they approached it, as first reported by Berkeleyside.
According to BPD spokesperson Jennifer Coats, after calling for backup, officers arrested 42-year-old Oakland resident Eliexer Rodriguez on suspicion of possessing a loaded firearm as a felon, possessing methamphetamines for sale, and violating the terms of his probation.
Rodriguez was transported and booked into Santa Rita Jail. His bail is set at $81,305 and his arraignment is scheduled for Monday at 2 p.m. at Wiley W. Manuel Courthouse.
