Lack of attendance at sports events needs to stop

Yes, it is true that our sports aren’t the best of the best, and that the University of Hartford sports does not get that much recognition on television.

But, that should not mean that our attendance for the sports games we have to offer here at the University should be so low.

Throughout the fours years I have attended the University of Hartford, and the multitude of games I have attended, it is honestly sad to witness the low attendance rate at every game.

I know a lot of students at this university are very big on sports, so for them to not enjoy free, live, collegiate games is truly baffling.

They rave about how they want to go to games but do not take the opportunity to go and watch our own division one games, which completely contradicts what they want to do.

I get that it is not of professional level but we should be grateful for even having sports teams that play at this high of a level.

I also get that our teams do not win much, but have you guys ever heard of home field advantage?

Maybe if there were more students at the games we could be a force to the other opponent and potentially help our sports teams win more games.

There are some schools that do not even have sports teams and I know that would be terrible for students who actually are very big into sports.

So I personally wish there was a change in that.

Especially now that our fall sports teams are playing very well there should be no excuse to not go and support them.

I will give credit where it is due though, Aton Goff, University of Hartford Athletic Director has been trying his hardest to promote games and get the student body to attend different games.

He does this by promoting Hawknation Domination.

Ever since Anton Goff has started doing this, there actually has been in increase to the attendance in our sports games.

It is not the ideal amount, and I would like to see more but it is actually nice to see.

With that being said how about we start with this weekend?

There is a Pre-Game tailgate going on Saturday Sept. 19th before the men’s soccer game.

If you do not have anything to do, go to it, mingle, enjoy good company, and most importantly support our men’s soccer team.

The game starts at 7pm so tailgating will be before that.

Then after that, depending on the status of the game, go out and celebrate with the people you just met and enjoy the rest of your night the right way.

So come on out, bring your friends, and make life loing memories.

You won’t regret it.
