If anyone watches sports, and has been keeping up with what’s been going on in sports, they know one of the biggest stories out right now (unfortunately) is the case between NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
For those that do not know, the controversy started because the New England Patriots were accused of deflating balls during an NFL game against the Indianapolis Colts in which the Patriots dominated the Colts with a whopping 45-7 win.
Once news got out that this was true, the NFL Commissioner Goodell targeted Brady and suspended him four games due to the fact that Brady “potentially” knew about the deflated balls.
There was no visual or dominant evidence to prove this was true that Brady knew about the balls being deflated, but yet Goodell felt the need it was still a good reason (whatever it may be) to suspend the quarterback for a total of four games.
Now in my very humble opinion this has to be one of the most ridiculous sports controversies I have ever known to exist. I say this with good reasoning. But before I state that reasoning, I will admit, even being a Patriots fan, what they did was not right and the consequences the team received as a whole was correct.
Now I am upset because Goodell has single-handedly picked on Brady and I do not feel that is right.
He suspended him for literally no reason because there is no proof that he knew of what was going on. If there was proof, then this entire controversy would be over with. But, unfortunately it isn’t because Goodell is a doofus.
Take this for example, Greg Hardy, defensive end for the Dallas Cowboys who was charged with a domestic violence charge. Domestic violence as in harming/striking a female and thinking it was ok to do.
Guess how many games Goodell suspended Hardy?
If you guessed anything higher than four games, unfortunately you are wrong. Goodell suspended Hardy with exactly four games, and that to me is honestly ridiculous beyond belief.
How can someone with that much responsibility mess up that bad?
With that four game suspension, Goodell basically told the world that domestic violence and potentially knowing about a scandal is the same thing.
I don’t know about you, but I do know that there is no way Hardy should have gotten only four games or what Tom Brady probably did should be getting as high as four games.
I am not trying to sound completely biased but it’s hard when everyone knows that the suspension is ridiculous. Whether you are a patriots fan or not, people know what is right in this situation.
I get it, you either really like the Patriots or you hate them and Brady’s guts. But any person in their right mind would not agree with the suspension. They would only accept it because Brady is the star player of the Patriots and non-fans want to see them fail.
But regardless of all that, Goodell is an idiot and to wrongly defame Brady’s name was not smart on his part. He better hope this case ends in his favor because if it doesn’t, Goodell will look extremely ignorant and he may be done for this.
It just blows my mind because if this was any other team or any other player, none of this would be such an issue.
But as I stated before, you’re either a Patriots fan and you love them, or you’re not a Patriots fan and you hate them. There is no between the two.
So to be honest it makes sense why Goodell would make such an idiotic move in suspending Brady. If he was to let him slide, then the entire NFL fan base – who is not a fan of the Patriots and Tom Brady – would have been in an outrage.
Therefore, I personally believe that Goodell did this to save that from happening.
Hopefully all of this gets fixed ASAP for Brady and the New England Patriots’ sake because this is nothing but a large distraction to the team as a whole.
We all know what the right decision will be and if the world knows, hopefully the court case that is being held, the judge will also agree and make the right decision and have this controversy be over with. It is a little ridiculous after all.
