Taro Ball is my favorite dessert in China, I crave it when I am in the United States and I have it almost every day when I am in China. Taro Ball was invented in 1946 in Taiwan, and it has been the most popular Taiwan dessert since then. Some desserts come and go, but taro balls stay FOREVER.
Taro balls is a traditional Taiwanese dessert made of taro. It can be found in almost every part of Taiwan. Taro balls are made by mixing mashed taro with water and sweet potato flour or potato flour, which can make the taro balls taste chewier and softer. The color of mashed taro makes the taro balls purple or grey. Sometimes people replace mashed taro with sweet potato or mung bean, so the color becomes yellow or green. Taro Ball is a great dessert for both summer and winter, since it can be served hot or cold.
It is very easy to make taro balls. Actually, there are many YouTube videos that teach you how to make them. It’s a bit time consuming (I am too lazy haha), but it’s worth it to surprise your friends with some Asian taro balls dessert! After you make taro balls, serve them with syrup, crushed ice, and maybe some fruits (depend on what’s your preference). I can’t imagine anything more refreshing than a Taro Ball dessert in summer. TRY IT!
