President Michael Gottfredson announces formation of external review panel on sexual misconduct

The formation of an external review panel to examine how the University of Oregon prevents and responds to sexual violence, harassment and intimidation on campus was announced by President Michael Gottfredson, Vice President for Student Affairs Robin Holmes and Athletic Director Rob Mullens Monday afternoon.

The review will include the evaluation of the university’s current practices and protocols, comparing those practices to peer institutions, reviewing how the UO athletic department evaluates prospective student- athletes and the evaluation of live-skill education, student support and conduct expectations.

Additionally, the panel will consider the effectiveness of a recent report put out by the Division of Student Affairs in December that recommended policies and practices for how the university should respond to sexual assault.

Gottfredson, Holmes and Mullens will appoint seven to nine members to sit on the panel.

The overall composition of the panel will be made up of those with professional expertise and life experience: Legal or judicial, executive-level student affairs and student conduct administration, sexual violence prevention and response advocacy, university enrollment management expertise, community leadership, Division I athletic experience, and representation from the University of Oregon Board of Trustees, according to the Office of the President’s website.

The release said that the panel’s work will begin immediately.
