With under one week before Oregon’s schedule ramps up the intensity in Pac-12 play, the Ducks must get through one more game to complete a perfect non-conference record.
The Ducks are currently ranked No. 12 in the country and boast the nation’s top offense, averaging 90.3 points per game. They also rank seventh in the country with a 51.1 field goal percentage.
Leading the offensive charge is junior Joseph Young and senior Mike Moser, both transfer players. Young leads the team with 19.8 ppg while shooting 45.5 percent from three-point range. Likewise, Moser is second on the team with 14.6 points per game and a team-high 7.5 rebounds per game.
Apart from Young and Moser, four other Ducks are averaging over 9.8 points per game. Johnathon Loyd is contributes a team-high 6.8 assists per game while Elgin Cook shoots a team-high 60.7-percent from the field and Jason Calliste leads the team by shooting 59.4 percent from three-point range.
Standing between Oregon and a perfect 12-0 start is Morgan State (3-8), an experienced squad but currently one of the worst offensive teams in the country.
The Bears return four starters from a 17-15 squad last year that advanced all the way to the MEAC tournament championship game and are led by Justin Black (18.7 ppg) and 7-foot-2 center Ian Chiles (14.5 ppg and 6.1 rpg).
As a team, Morgan State is ranked 261st in the country by averaging just 69.2 points per game and shooting an absurdly low 42.3 percent from the floor as a team, being ranked 272nd in the country. The Bears also struggle mightily on the road by not recording a win and are getting outscored by an average of 23.0 points per game in the four road defeats.
Although Oregon’s offense is nearly unstoppable, the defense is a work in progress as they have given up over 75 points in six of the 11 games they’ve played thus far. Locking up the defense will be one of the main keys for the Ducks and head coach Dana Altman as Oregon opens up Pac-12 play with two road games at No. 21 Colorado and Utah.
