Flemming Lauds Kennedy’s Work

The following article originally appeared in the Nov. 23, 1963 edition of The Oregon Daily Emerald in the days following the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

University President Arthur Flemming issued the following statement Friday:

At a critical point in our history, an assassin’s bullet has deprived our Nation and the world of the leadership of one who dedicated his life to the service of his fellow man. We shall be forever indebted to him for his dedication to the cause of world peace and for his concern for the needs and rights of his fellow human beings. I was privileged to sense that concern in a meeting that I had with him in the White House just a week ago.

All over our Nation prayers will be offered for the members of the late President’s family and for President Johnson who has now assumed the duties and responsibilities of the world’s most difficult post.
