Police recover body from Mississippi River

University of Minnesota police recovered a body from the Mississippi River after authorities received a report of a man jumping off the Washington Avenue Bridge around 7 a.m. Wednesday, according to a press release from the Hennepin County Sheriff's Office.

The body was that of a Twin Cities metro area man in his 50s, the release said. His name hasn't yet been released.

University police Deputy Chief Chuck Miner said in a voicemail that the jump was a suicide.
