After months of waiting, the verdict has finally been issued.
Jim Calhoun has been suspended for the first three Big East games of next season by the NCAA committee on infractions for failing to promote an atmosphere of compliance and for failing to properly monitor phone calls, text messages and the recruiting inducements issued by a booster.
UConn was not issued a postseason ban.
The penalty stems from an NCAA investigation that began in March 2009 over the recruitment of former UConn prospect Nate Miles. The NCAA also cited the university for failing to monitor the men’s basketball program, and placed the program on probation for three years, cut the number of scholarships the program may issue by one until after the 2012-13 academic year, along with numerous recruiting sanctions.
