Crucial call aids Iowa victory

TEMPE, Ariz. — In a season where seemingly everything went wrong, Iowa caught a rare break Tuesday night in the Insight Bowl.

It looked as if T.J. Moe’s 10-yard reception on fourth-and-6 late in the fourth quarter would move the chains for Missouri on perhaps the game’s most critical play. Although no replay showed definitely whether Moe had control of the ball as he hit the ground, the referees reviewed the call and ruled the pass incomplete. Iowa got the ball back with 2:15 remaining and a four-point lead in hand.

“I thought I had it, but I guess they had some evidence that I didn’t,” Moe said after the game. “And that’s just the way it goes sometimes.”

The Hawkeyes were able to run out the clock and win their third-consecutive bowl game, 27-24.

When asked about the call, Missouri head coach Gary Pinkel said, “You know what? It doesn’t matter. So why talk about it?”

Iowa defensive end Adrian Clayborn offered a different perspective: “I thought he caught it honestly. The guys in the sky know more than I do, and I’m just glad they overturned it. It was a great feeling, I guess.”
