Police say they found child pornography on an Iowa City man’s computer.

Alexander Evans, 27, faces federal charges of unlawful possession of child pornography after police allegedly found he had engaged in file sharing of child pornography on his computer.

Iowa City police began an investigation of Evans after a female minor reported she had been sexually assaulted by him at his home on the evening of Feb. 25, 2009, according to federal court documents.

On March 3, 2009, police conducted a drug investigation in connection with Evans. Officers took garbage bags from the curb in front of Evans’ residence and reportedly discovered numerous marijuana stems in them. That allowed the police to obtain a search warrant for Evans’ house, court documents said.

During a search of his residence, officers allegedly found images of child pornography on Evans’ computer. In an interview later that day, Evans reportedly admitted he downloaded a lot of pornography. Evans waived his right for a preliminary hearing and a detention hearing has been set for July 28.
