After Towson’s season ended May 8 in a 12-9 loss to Delaware in the CAA finals, it was uncertain whether head coach Tony Seaman’s expiring contract would be renewed for further seasons.
Any questions on the matter were answered Tuesday, when then director of athletics Mike Hermann announced a new contract with Seaman had been agreed upon, extending the coaches stay through the 2013 season.
“With Tony, it was an easy decision,” Hermann said. “He really brought the program back to relevance this year. Getting the men’s in the top 20, winning the regular season CAA title, earning the coach of the year honors in the league. I feel strongly he has the program heading in the right program.”
Seaman will be returning for his 13th year with the Tigers, posting a 96-83 record thus far. Playing one of the toughest schedules in the country last season, he earned the No. 1 seed in the CAA tournament and garnered coach of the year honors. With many of his players returning next year, Seaman expects to exceed last season’s results.
Seaman said he hopes “to win the league and get back to the NCAAs, if not once, twice or three times. That’s certainly our biggest goal.”
