The development company based out of Champaign, JSM Development has began the move-in procedure into Uptown Crossing at 100 South Fell Street, Normal Ill.
The company owns over 1,000 student apartments near the University of illinois campus, it said in a press release issued by JSM.
“JSM has been wanting to expand to new markets for quite some time,” Jill Guth, director of development for JSM said. “We have explored ISU, Purdue, SIU as well as other campuses. We feel we have a great product and provide outstanding customer service and maintenance and are excited to duplicate our efforts at ISU.”
The development, a mixed use project is JSM’s first in the Bloomington-Normal area. It is a five story building that has been in process since Spring of 2009. The first floor is retail space, which will be home to CVS; the second floor is office space, that will be occupied by Illinois State University offices and the JSM Residential Leasing Office; and the top three floors will have 42 one bedrooms units, 75 two bedroom units, and 18 one bedroom luxury units.
Residents began moving in Friday.
Guth said they plan to have a mix of faculty and staff as residents, that the building is quite similar to the Gregory Place properties at Illinois.
JSM hopes to continue expanding in the Bloomington-Normal area.
“We absolutely plan to expand our operations in Normal and at ISU,” Guth said. “We have jumped in the market with a large mixed use building, established our leasing office, and will be exploring other properties to add to our ISU portfolio.”
