The University of Minnesota-Duluth is introducing a new gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender studies minor that some say could make the school’s campus more welcoming.
In response to demand and an increase in research regarding GLBT issues, the school announced earlier this month that students will have the opportunity to take courses in the new minor starting this fall.

For the first time, Spring Jam will be a one-day mini music festival, with daylong performances, carnival rides and food trucks.
Rapper YG will headline the main event on April 25 after opening performances by hip-hop acts Travis Porter and Lizzo and pop artists Kiesza and Betty Who.
The event will be held in a parking lot behind Mariucci Arena. Spring Jam’s host, Student Unions and Activities, tweaked the format this year, altering the normally three-day event into a one-day festival.

The Student Services Fees Committee released its final funding recommendations for administrative units on Monday, making small deductions from its initial recommendations that were released last month.
The committee initially recommended nearly all of the administrative units’ more than $27 million request, but the group reduced its recommendations by about $83,000 to keep student services fees from rising too much next academic year.

The University of Minnesota and surrounding areas saw a surge in vehicle-related crimes over spring break.
Two vehicles were broken into near the Como Student Community Cooperative between March 16 and 17, according to University police reports. A car was reported stolen near the cooperative during the same time period.
There are no surveillance cameras in the area, so it’s unclear when exactly the incidents occurred, University Police Department Lt. Troy Buhta said.

Neighborhood and city leaders are working to implement traffic obstacles in the Marcy-Holmes neighborhood in hopes of slowing down area motorists.
Two small circular blocks of land — known as “traffic calming circles” — will be placed at two intersections along Sixth Avenue Southeast to slow down drivers and protect the neighborhood’s increasing bicyclist population.

In an effort to combat racial profiling by law enforcement officials, two Minneapolis City Council members are asking the city to repeal certain low-level offenses that impact minorities at higher rates.
At a City Council meeting Friday, Ward 2 Councilman Cam Gordon announced that he plans to repeal ordinances that made lurking and spitting on sidewalks illegal. Changes would go into effect after next month’s full council meeting if the measure is approved.

As the five Gophers skaters on the ice patiently passed around the puck, allowing the final minute to bleed mercilessly off the clock, a celebration of the program’s third national championship in four years had already begun.
The sold out crowd of 3,400 at Ridder Arena, comprised almost entirely of Gophers fans, rose to its feet. Players on Minnesota’s bench began hugging and congratulating each other.
And then the final horn sounded.

My girlfriend keeps kosher and always has. I, on the other hand, did not even know what “keeping kosher” meant until I was older.
For now, we live separately, and it isn’t a problem. As we get more and more serious, and potentially talk about moving in together, I can’t help but think there will be some sort of issue.

The University of Minnesota continues to make significant progress in becoming more sustainable and reaching the goals set by the Board of Regents, which aim to have the school reach zero net greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
