House mulls kill switch bill

Following a series of smartphone thefts on and around the University of Minnesota’s campus, a committee in the Minnesota House of Representatives discussed a proposal Thursday that would make phones useless after they are lost or stolen.

Some testified at the meeting and said in order to deter criminals, a “kill switch” bill should pass. Others argued and said it would be impractical and raise privacy concerns.
