UWIRE has decided to retire its affiliates-only site CopyBoy after ten valiant years of service. (Don’t worry, folks, the Boy will be happier at his new home. There’s lots of space to run there.) Affiliates can now find same stories once found on CopyBoy.com at the new UWIRE.com, which features better search features and faster results. Please read the following FAQ for additional information. You may also contact UWIRE editorial director, Andrew Young or UWIRE general manager Ben French with specific questions.
I am a UWIRE affiliate. How do find wire stories?
All stories posted on UWIRE.com are available for use by affiliates. Simply use the search functionality on the left of this page to find stories from the wire service. You can search by keyword, category, state, athletic conference and date – individually or in a combination – to find the stories you want to feature. As before, please make sure to properly attribute the story by keeping the writer’s name, affiliate name and UWIRE dateline tag with the story.
Where’s Top News?
As part of the change, we decided to spend less time marking something as ‘Top News’ and more time tagging these stories into specific categories so you can search easier. The Editor’s Pick is a new way to see the daily stories our editors found most compelling and interesting. Another good metric is to see what stories we feature on the front page and section pages of UWIRE.com.
How far back does the archive go?
The current archive is limited to the last few weeks of UWIRE content. We hope to expand that in the coming months to include a much larger selection of previously published UWIRE stories.
Why did you make the switch?
As much as we loved CopyBoy, he sort of stopped being cool in around 1999 or so. Our affiliates have long asked for improvements – such as better search and expanded media types like photos and videos – and we’re happy to finally oblige. The change is part of a broader rejuvenation of the UWIRE service. We think you will appreciate a better user experience for affiliates as well as some of the non-affiliate features we’ve installed on the site.
What else is new on UWIRE.com?
UWIRE has broadened its mission from being a content tool to adding community and career aspects to the site. Central to the new UWIRE.com is your ability to create a profile for yourself – including your resume, best clips, and blog. You can also network with colleagues and friends who also have profiles on the site. This is your chance to show off your professional self.
What other changes does UWIRE have in the works?
During the next several months, UWIRE.com will be rolling out several features to our Beta site including a place for your Affiliate profile (paper information, staff members, blogs, etc.), even more content, videos, job boards, an assignment desk and collaborative reporting projects. We want UWIRE.com to be the place to find the best in student-produced journalism, sending links and traffic back to our affiliate sites.
How do I find out what’s new on UWIRE.com?
Sign up for our News, Arts, Opinion and Sports Newsletters – daily emails that contain some of the stories our Editors found compelling.
Who do I contact with questions?
Please let us know what you think about the new site. Contact General Manager Ben French (email link) or Editorial Director Andrew Young with thoughts, questions or ideas for ways we can improve on the new UWIRE.com. This is a Beta site and we’re looking for feedback from our community of affiliates to make it better in the coming months and years.
What are the terms of use?
By using content from UWIRE.com, you are agreeing to UWIRE’s terms of agreement, which your media outlet should have already signed. (member list) If you previously had a CopyBoy username and password, your media outlet was a member in good standing with UWIRE. If not, or if you want a new copy of this agreement, please click here and we will send it to you for review and signature.
