She’s living the rock journalist dream even before graduating college

What others are saying...

Ed Morales, adviser for The Red & Black

Reading a Sami story is having a conversation with someone who never feels old or contrived. One of her columns, which was essentially an obituary for the MTV Video Music Awards, was smart, smart-ass and had just the right tinge of regret and anger – regret because of what it once meant and anger for what it had become. Breezy writing should be cherished, and Sami is a master at it.

Samantha Promisloff is one of those rare breeds who's sincerely unafraid to be herself.

She's not there to been seen, she's there to embrace what's around her and bring it to life for those who aren't. The perfect example is when I first met Miss Promisloff at SXSW 2007.

In the first 10 minutes of meeting her, she charmed me with her unabashed southern sweetness, but what really impressed me was her natural way to admit that she was nervous. She was so incredibly proud to be writing for Spin and to be at SXSW and she wanted to do a solid, great job, but she wasn't caught up in the "cool" factors of being at such a festival or covering for such a publication.

There was no arrogance, no over the top dialogue -- she just delivered quality content (before deadline!) and it was with pure class. Sometimes, people can forget that is takes real guts to be true to who you are. Samantha Promisloff makes it seem easy.

Sami is everywhere. She is the hardest working student in Athens. If there's something going on, she knows about it, and has a lot to say about it. She is able to mix business and pleasure unlike most -- working on projects and with people that she loves.

When I was in seventh grade, I lived the dream of nearly every American girl with an imagination: top-notch dress-up chest, and heart of gold - or ruby. I stood on stage in gingham and pigtails as Dorothy in "The Wizard of Oz."

It was an unusually poignant and reverent Sunday (June 17) at Bonnaroo this year. As debaucherous and overwhelming as a festival weekend can be, the candor of a few of the day's acts recalled the simpler, earlier time where festival culture was born.
