Emily Schultheis
Her reporting makes politics relevant to a new generation
What others are saying...
Juliette Mullin, managing editor for The Daily Pennsylvanian
Emily is the reporter you can always count on. She goes above and beyond every day and will do whatever it takes for the story. She produces strong, quality work and writes almost every day some weeks. She also works with the Web and video department to put together videos for events and to work on the elections blog.
But as her editor, I see more than just an excellent and dedicated reporter. Emily is the kind of reporter that makes me love my job. She breathes life into us on a slow night at the paper the same way that she breathes life into a story we thought was dead. She brings passion to what she does.
Emily Babay, city news editor for The Daily Pennsylvanian
As one of the DP's city and politics reporters this past semester, Emily faced a somewhat unusual and difficult task in having to cover a national event -- the Pennsylvania primary -- but from a perspective relevant to Penn and young people. Emily monitored the race's developments on the national and local levels, and developed innovative story ideas to make our political coverage tailored to Penn. Also, Emily's contributions to the DP extend beyond the print version of the paper; she regularly blogged throughout the primary season, especially about the Pennsylvania race, and interviewed attendees (including Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter) on video at various political events.
