Allison Yang
Lead Anchor
She’s the next-gen journalist who resembles a mix of Diane Sawyer and Dr. Sanjay Gupta
What others are saying...
Sarah Rahaman, colleague at CTV News
In hopes of achieving her goal of being a medical correspondent, Allison manages to balance a rigorous pre-med course load with her various activities. Her varied experience includes writing for the Columbia University newspaper The Spectator, anchoring, producing and reporting for Columbia University television news and reporting segments for ThePalestra.com as well. She has also been featured in Fox News' coverage of the youth vote for this year's elections.
David Milch, manager of Media, Performing Arts and Publication Production for the Office of Student Development and Activities at Columbia University
We’ve had several noteworthy events this year, and Ally has been a part of all of them. When our campus hosted Iranian President Ahmadinejad, Ally helped lead the CTV News team that covered the event live. The event went off without a hitch and was, to be honest, relatively straight forward from the CTV News standpoint.
John Tsarouchas, senior producer and reporter for ThePalestra.com
Working with Allison is truly a pleasure. She's proven to be a committed journalist with great news judgment. Her delightful personality comes through on-camera and she's been a great fit doing morning headlines. Not only gifted on-air, Allison has proved to be both proficient in writing and reporting. Incredibly self-sufficient and responsible, Allison proved time-after-time her ability to respond to news quickly, accurately and fairly. She covered Iranian president, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's visit to Columbia with confidence and professionalism not easily found in student reporters.
Bradley Blackburn, news director for CTV News
As co-news director at Columbia Television News, Allison Yang led a team of college journalists to anchor and produce a live weekly television newscast without any faculty assistance. Alli is a talented reporter, producer and editor, but as a pre-med student she also brings a sharp scientific intellect to her work. Her background in print journalism also makes her a particularly gifted writer.
Kelly Healton, roommate
Alli and her friends consistently joke that she wants to be "Diane Sawyer with an MD," but nothing could be truer about her exceptional ambitions. For the years that I have known Alli, she has balanced her pre-med course load with her intense interest in journalism. She consistently seeks ways to bring these two goals together. Additionally, Alli is always on the lookout for a story in the world around her ranging from high-minded commentary on the youth vote to every day classroom life. I myself have been a subject (or victim maybe) of this curiosity. When discussing an economics course of mine with a particularly horrendous quiz schedule, Alli learned that my professor had employed a new technology in the classroom and she just had to know what students thought. Suddenly I found myself in front of a camera then later saw my professor on the weekly program and I knew I was living with a truly unique individual.
